Contact VickiSometimes women, and even their partners, feel they just need to talk about their birth and have an independent person listen. I am here to offer that time and space for you to dissect your birth, ask questions and feel heard.
Debriefing for both the mother and her partner are important because it can help with:
• Feeling like you are now being listened to
• Reflection on your experiences and feelings
• Validation of your emotions and mindset
• Clarification on medical terminology or outcomes
• Feeling you are now on a therapeutic journey
Debriefing helps you to look back over:
• Your previous knowledge and preparation around birthing compared to now
• Your feelings during your pregnancy
• Your expectations for that baby and birth
• How you felt at your antenatal appointments with your care provider
• General feelings as a couple and planning the birth together
• The language used during pregnancy, labour, birth and afterwards
• What the partners remember that the woman may not and vice versa
• The cascade of interventions and results
• Your postpartum experience
• What negatives came out of your birth story?
• What positives can you reflect on from your birth story?
• Do you feel guilt, shame, or blame around that birth?
Please note that although I provide debriefing services, I am not a counsellor, but I can provide you with a referral to see a qualified professional to suit your circumstances.
