We have some really incredible bodyworkers in Perth so I have put together the Perth Bodyworkers Collective and these are all practitioners that I know, like and trust and regularly refer my clients to who have had amazing results.

I always suggest having regular massage during pregnancy with a Pregnancy Massage Specialist who has done specific training on pregnancy massage, so you can get relief from the aches and pains of pregnancy, but also for that nurturing and relaxation that you really do need during pregnancy as well.

Many women are told that they cannot have massage during the first trimester, but research now shows that it is highly beneficial for women to have massage all through their pregnancy, including the first trimester, if they see a qualified pregnancy massage therapist.

I have created this list of qualified Pregnancy Massage Specialists who are part of the Perth Pregnancy Massage Collective so I know that they have undertaken additional training specific to pregnancy and postnatal massage through Pregnancy Massage Australia.

We know that if the alignment of the pelvis is not balanced then this can prevent labour from starting or prevent baby from getting into an optimum position for labour and birth. I have included a list of Chiropractors who work with pregnant and postnatal women who have also done the Optimal Maternal Positioning (OMP) training, which means they are highly trained in demonstrating what techniques you can do to get your body into optimum condition so your baby gets into optimum position for labour and birth. If your baby doesn’t have room to move, then it is much harder for them to get into the perfect position for birth

We also find that women who go to the gym regularly and doing lots of exercise can be overly tight, particularly their pelvic floor – so it might also be a good time to check in with a Women’s Health Physiotherapist to get your pelvic floor and ligaments assessed and learn how to relax the pelvic floor especially during labour and birth. We know labour can be long and prolonged if the pelvic floor and the ligaments are really tight, so during pregnancy it is important to learn how to relax the pelvic floor, rather than tighten them. If you are experiencing pain during your pregnancy or after birth, please don’t think that this is “normal” go and get checked by one of these amazing physiotherapists who are highly qualified in diagnosing problems and working with you to reduce or eliminate pain.

Finally I have also included Acupuncturists that are well known in Perth and who I have worked with for many years. Dr Kate Levett from Restore Health & Wellness in NSW is one of the leading researchers in Australia on how acupuncture supports women during pregnancy. She also provides the training to our Hypnobirthing Australia™ practitioners on demonstrating acupressure points to couples during our Hypnobirthing Australia™ Positive Birth Program. She states: “Acupuncture is a healing art that originated in China thousands of years ago. In pregnancy and birth, we’ve got some good strategies to help move energy and support hormones in the body using Acupuncture and acupressure as part of Chinese Medicine. If we have pain or nausea or other conditions we can use acu points along the Meridians in the body to move energy, which the Chinese call Qi (pronounced Chee). Your acupuncturist can show you some useful acupressure points for pregnancy, labour and birth. The points are ‘alive’ points and are sometimes tender or painful, so be gentle and stimulate according to Mum’s tolerance. These points will be good for labour stimulation, pain relief and nausea as well.”
