Privately Practising Midwives in Western Australia

We are so lucky to have so many awesome Privately Practising Midwives available in Western Australia, and I am so relieved that the list has grown extensively since I first started this Directory and continues to grow, which is exciting for women of Perth and Western Australia.

A Privately Practising Midwife (PPM) is a midwife who is in private practice and does not work for a hospital or the Community Midwifery Program, although some of these midwives may have admitting rights at King Edward Memorial Hospital and Fiona Stanley Hospital.

When you choose a PPM, you will have all your antenatal appointments with your PPM at your home or at their place of business as mutually agreed. You will see the same midwife for the whole of your pregnancy, birth and postpartum period, therefore having the benefits of continuity of care and they will also have a backup midwife who they work with in case they are sick or not able to attend your birth due to special circumstances, who will also be at your birth to support your midwife as there needs to be two midwives in attendance.

Your midwife may also be eligible for the Medicare rebate scheme, which means you will be able to claim the Medicare rebate for your antenatal visits and maybe even a portion of your birth.

This is something that you can find out when you meet potential midwives for your pregnancy, labour and birth.

I have put this list together of Privately Practising Midwives based in Western Australia to help you with your research, with the most up to date information that has been provided to me by the midwives – and sometimes they don’t wish to share certain information publicly.

These women are all amazing and all have excellent skills and experience and are truly focused on supporting you through a physiological birth but more importantly supporting and advocating for your wants and needs for a positive, calm birth experience.

I suggest you ring each midwife (rather than email) and have a chat to see who is available around your estimated due date, and then arrange to meet them, feel into their energy and see who you connect and resonate with the most.

Making the choice to have a private practising midwife is the best investment that you could ever make.

If there is anyone that you know that is not on here, then please let me know so that I can add them. Please note that some private midwives only work by referrals, so they have opted not to be included in this list.

Please note, not all private midwives wish to be included on this list and prefer to work on a referral basis, and some private midwives have admitting rights to the two main hospitals but choose not to disclose this publicly as they prefer this to be a transfer option for home birth clients only.
