The Duchess gives birth in 5 hours – how could she have just given birth and look so good?

There is something about a royal baby that has the whole world excited.

I know…. not everyone gets excited, and if you are not that interested, well just go on by, but I think you will agree that there really is a lot of excitement once we know that a Royal Princess is in labour, and for me, I just adore Kate and William and I am sure that Princess Diana would be beaming her delicious smile down on them from the heavens.

So the glamorous Kate, Duchess of Cambridge was reported to have gone into active labour just before 8:30am this morning and like you’d expect there was a huge influx of people gathered outside St Mary’s Hospital to await the announcement that the Royal babe had been born.

Everyone in waiting, cameras, pens and media all poised ready for that announcement that would be broadcast across the world and social media….and wowzers they didn’t have long to wait.

Kate gave birth to her baby boy around 11am with William by her side and then not even 6 hours later was out there in that stunning red dress, post-birth belly showing and there she was smiling and waving to the crowds.

Let me say that again – “she gave birth” to her son – she did not deliver him.

Nobody else delivered her baby either – not her doctors, obstetricians, midwives or husband – she birthed her baby.

We deliver pizzas – we do not deliver babies!

Anyway, let’s get back to how good Kate looked.

Her hair and makeup perfectly done and baby all wrapped up like a little Snugglepot baby.

But she gave birth in around 5 hours – how could she have just given birth and look so good?

It has been reported widely that Kate has practised hypnobirthing for all three of her births.

After all three births she has looked happy, exuberant and glamorous – let’s face it, she is a glamorous woman.

Even though she would have had the best care that money can buy, she would have practised a number of techniques to help her relax and feel calm, while William would have also been taught how to be an incredible birth support person and have an active role in helping Kate through her labour.

Unfortunately the media has played a massive part in portraying birth as wild, scary, dangerous and painful.

As a Doula I have supported many clients who look as fresh and as incredible as Kate does after just giving birth.

They are enveloped in that oxytocin and endorphin high.

They are exuberant about the huge achievement they have just accomplished of pushing a baby out of their vagina.

And many of those same clients have said “wow I can’t wait to do that again”…..

Now of course my clients are not Royals so they are not expected to give public appearances so soon after birth as part of Royal Protocol, so you have to admire Kate for coming out and sharing her baby with us so soon.

Initially there was some chatter in the media that Kate was contemplating having a home birth, and wow, did you see the overload of negative comments that we read in social media who criticised that, even though the Queen gave birth at home.

So with that in mind, I bet she couldn’t wait to get out of that hospital and home where she could put on her pajamas and sink into her luxurious bed and have her baby right there next to her, or even on her, while her staff and husband have the job of looking after her and nurturing her – at home!

Or maybe she is one of those women who suffered terribly with sickness all the way through her pregnancy, then she gives birth naturally and regains a sense of power back over her body and feels “invincible and strong” again and starts chomping at the bit to get out of that hospital and conquer the world just like she conquered her birth, and that power and energy also being channelled from her beautiful mother-in-law Princess Diana.

That’s how I like to think of it all.

I think it is more sad that no matter what Kate had done – coming out looking glamorous or dagged out in pajamas and slippers – there was always going to be criticism as there are so many who say “I didn’t look like that” and “no way she just gave birth and looks like that”

We are all different.

We are all made differently.

We are all unique.

Do what you feel is right for you – but don’t criticise what another does and certainly don’t say she can’t possibly look that good after just giving birth.

She does …. and regardless of her having a hair stylist and makeup artist – it goes so much deeper than that – she looks empowered.

I am sure that her preparation, her support team and her confidence about birthing played a huge role in how she looks after birth as well.

Ina May Gaskin once said that “if a woman does not look like a goddess during labour then she is not being treated right”.

The birthing goddess glow from all those natural hormones, rather than drugs, continues on after birth as well.
